Multi-Passage Rotary Unions

Multi-Passage Rotary Unions
Multi-passage (MP) rotary unions are used when more than one media are used simultaneously.
An MP rotary union provides multiple seals between stationary connections and rotating equipment, such as a drum, index table, clutch, or spindle. The multiple independent passages permit the flow of the same or different media into or out of the rotating equipment. Power and fluid transfer media typically used with multi-passage rotary unions include hydraulic fluids, cutting fluids, air, or inert gas. Other media include steam, water, thermal oil, and coolant. When electrical power, signal, or data transfer is combined with fluid transfer, MP rotary unions include a through bore to accommodate a slip ring or are integrated directly with slip rings.

Over-the-Shaft Rotary Unions

Over-the-Shaft Rotary Unions
Over-the-shaft (OTS) rotary unions are used with roll journals that contain internal passages and require fluid conveyance through the journal into the roll.

An OTS rotary union seals around the journal and transfers fluid in and out of the passages as the journal rotates.

OTS rotary joints are most common in applications where the fluid conveyance occurs at the same end as the drive system. The number of inlet and outlet ports on an OTS rotary joint and the seal technologies used are matched to the roll journal and application. OTS rotary unions can be custom-engineered for any journal size and performance requirements to supply water, steam, air, or other fluids.

Pressure Powered Pumps

Pressure powered pumps move condensate using steam or air pressure. This allows processes to operate at low pressures, minimize moving parts, and eliminate the energy loss associated with cooling condensate for electric pumps.

Liqui-Mover float operated pressure powered pumps use a mechanical float and valve. They are recommended where limited capacity is needed and it is impractical to run electricity. Liqui-Mover float free pressure powered pumps have greater capacity, increased control of condensate levels, and eliminate moving parts in the level sensor. They are recommended in higher capacity and critical applications. Unlike electric pumps, pressure powered pumps are robust to high temperatures, pressures, and wet environments. Electric centrifugal condensate pumps use an impeller that uses suction to pump the condensate. Suction lowers condensate pressure causing boiling, cavitation, and impeller damage. Electric pumps often require condensate to be cooled to prevent pump damage and the heat energy is lost to the environment.
