Safety audits are an onsite, independent third-party assessment of critical steam system components to identify gaps in safety, housekeeping, and operating practices. Performance audits are an onsite assessment of steam systems focused on identifying opportunities and solutions for improving energy efficiency, production speed, and product quality.

BCI™/BCIM™ Rotary Unions

BCI Rotary Unions
The Bearing Cover Inserted (BCI) rotary union is applied to continuous casting steel segment rolls on water service.

It is self-centering and mounted inside the bearing cover to protect the rotary union from breakouts and eliminates side loading caused by external flexible hoses. The ability to handle misalignment, the large flow area, and simple design make this rotary union a preferred design for all new and rebuilt continuous casting roll segments. Field tests have proven the BCI rotary union capable of operating for multiple campaigns without requiring repair.

C-Cast™ Rotary Unions

C-Cast Rotary Unions
The C-Cast rotary union is available in both external and internal (journal-inserted) mounted options and single- and dual-flow configurations.

The internal-mounted, or journal inserted configuration, is the most popular and is found on the majority of continuous casting machines in North America and Europe. The C-Cast rotary union features a large bearing area, deep grease galleys, and two Quad-Seal O-rings that keep contaminants out of the sealing area. With a minimum of moving parts and low maintenance requirements, the C-Cast is preferred by steel makers and OEMs worldwide. The C-Cast union is rated up to 250°F (121°C), 150 psig (10 bar), and 100 rpm.

Cascade Systems

SX Rotary Joints
Cascade steam systems are used when the desired steam pressure and temperature gradually changes through the process. They are ideal for systems that require progressively less temperature.

Steam from the boiler enters the section of the process requiring the most heat. A portion of the steam condenses, releasing its latent heat. As the steam and condensate exit the process section, they are at a lower pressure. The condensate is separated from the blow-through steam and returned to the boiler. The blow-through steam feeds the next section of the process at a lower pressure and temperature.

Control Units

Control Units
Control units can provide additional support to rubber expansion joints by adding rigidity strength when proper anchoring is not available.
Control units are also used to restrict the movement allowances of an expansion joint. They should always be used when excessive stress and motion on the joint might cause that joint to fail or be over-stressed to the point of near failure. The number of control rods installed on a joint is dictated by the pressure requirements on the system. The number of rods can also give greater control over any lateral movements. In general, control units are always recommended as an additional safety factor, preventing damage to the connector and associated equipment.
